Parent Overview

Germantown Public Library staff is happy to inform you that your student now has access to a library during the school day! The Germantown Public Library Spartan Branch is a library designed for Valley View Students and is not open to the public. This space is within walking distance from the K-12 building and is located in the Valley View Administrative Building (the old high school). Teachers may choose to walk students to the library and checkout books. If a parent or guardian has previously signed a library card application, students will already have a library card.  New cards will be issued to students who have not previously had cards, with parent/guardian permission.

When students visit with their class, we use the library account we have on file for them. Students will not need to bring their cards.

Books are checked out for 21 days and will auto-renew 1 time. Lost or damaged books will be billed to your student’s card.

Books can be returned in a number of ways:

 -at the Germantown Public Library

- at the Farmersville Dropbox

-at the Book Return boxes located outside of the new school offices

You can access your student’s account through our app or our website by using their 14-digit barcode number and their PIN. Students PINs have been set to the 4-digit year they were born (ex. 2014)

With a Germantown Public Library Card, your student has access to:

The Spartan Branch Library:

Books housed at the Spartan Branch Library aim to be age appropriate books that align with Valley View School Districts curriculum. Your student has the option of requesting books from other libraries from our consortium (Serving Every Ohioan Library Consortium) for delivery to the school, but those books must also meet the same criteria of content as the school library.

The Germantown Public Library:

This includes all books housed at the Germantown location as well as other books within the Serving Every Ohioan Consortium. All books deemed adult in content would have to be picked up at the Germantown Public Library.

Libby App:

This free app includes e-books and audiobooks for all ages. If you are concerned about your child’s access to content on this app, you can limit content in settings by clicking Content Controls and choosing Libby for Kids. You can also save settings permanently with a passkey.

Hoopla App:

This free app also includes e-books and audiobooks in addition to movies, tv shows and music. Patrons are allowed 10 checkouts per month. If you are concerned about your child’s access to content on this app you can limit content by clicking on kids mode. This setting can also be made permanent with a pin.
